The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl distributed a record payout to the two teams that participated in the December 30, 2004 football game at Qualcomm Stadium, bowl president Larry Blumberg announced. The University of California Golden Bears and Texas Tech University Red Raiders each received $2,086,815 for participating in "San Diego's Bowl Classic." The Red Raiders defeated the Golden Bears 45-31 before 63,711 fans. "The bowl's upward trend with respect to our payouts is critically important for our ability to bring the nation's best teams to San Diego year after year," said Blumberg. "This is just one marker of the bowl's growth for which the entire Pacific Life Holiday Bowl family is very proud. The previous Holiday Bowl high per team payout was in 2001 when the Universities of Washington and Texas each received $2,044,988. This is the fifth consecutive year the game has paid the participating teams at least $2 million. The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl's team payout ranks ninth largest of the 28 bowl games. |
