The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl and Pacific-10 Conference have extended their agreement placing a highly ranked team in the bowl game annually through 2009, Pacific Life Holiday Bowl President Stephen P. Cushman and Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. The four-year extension, which begins with the 2006 game, maintains the bowl’s current match-up between the runner-up from the Pac-10 Conference and the third selection from the Big 12 Conference. “The Pacific-10 is made up of quality universities, and quality people,” said Cushman. “We are thrilled our partnership with one of the nation’s strongest conferences will continue. It’s safe to say that San Diegans can anticipate experiencing more of what they have come to expect - - - exciting games and down-to-the-wire finishes.” Since the bowl’s current Pac-10 versus Big 12 match-up began in 1998, the average score is 34-27, with five games decided by seven points or less. The outcome of six games was not decided until the final two minutes of play. Of the seven games played, the Pac-10 has come out on top four times. “The Pac-10 is pleased to extend its relationship with the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl,” said Pacific-10 Conference Commissioner Tom Hansen. “The games have been competitive, San Diego is a quality destination for our teams and their fans and the excellence of the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl staff and volunteers makes for a wonderful experience.” The 2005 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl will be played Thursday, December 29 at Qualcomm Stadium. Kickoff is 5 p.m. with the pre-game festivities beginning at 4:30 p.m. For ticket information, call the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl at (619) 285-5059. |
