Stephen Cushman Elected 2005 SDBGA President
The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl board of directors has elected Stephen P. Cushman president of the 2005 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl. He succeeds Larry Blumberg, who moves up to chairman of the board.

"The financial impact and exposure this game has produced for the San Diego region is simply amazing, to say the least," said Cushman. "I'm incredibly excited to serve as president of this great non-profit effort."

The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl endeavors to create tourism, exposure, economic benefit and civic pride for San Diego and its citizens by producing the nation's most exciting bowl game and festival of events. The 2004 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl featured the 4th-ranked California Golden Bears and the 21st-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Red Raiders defeated the Golden Bears 45-31 before 63,711 fans at Qualcomm Stadium and more than 5.3 million television viewers on ESPN.

Mr. Cushman is a fourth generation San Diegan who graduated from Point Loma High School, and then earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from California Western University.

He is President of Cush Automotive Group. And in addition to his Pacific Life Holiday Bowl presidency, he currently is a commissioner for the San Diego Unified Port District. He also serves on the board of directors for the San Diego Hospital Association, Sharp Memorial Hospital, Hubbs SeaWorld Research Institute, San Diego State University's College of Business, and the Center for Culinary Arts.

Past civic responsibilities include serving as Chairman of the Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation, President of the New Car Dealers Association of San Diego County. He also played an important role as member of the 1998 Super Bowl Task Force.

He has received numerous awards through the years. Most recently he earned the "2004 Essence of World Trade Award" from the World Trade Center.

Stephen and his wife, Marjorie, reside in Scripps Ranch. They have two grown children, Debra and Lori, and four grandchildren.

Other elected officers for the 2005 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl include: Doug Sawyer, President-Elect; Geri Dillingham, Secretary; and Larry Baber, Treasurer.
