Two Dogs Advance to Finals of Wiener Nationals
The San Diego section semi-final for the 2005 Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals was held September 16 at Petco Park before nearly 40,000 fans during the San Diego Padres versus Washington Nationals baseball game. Participants included Noodles Gainer from Huntington Beach, Truffles Reed of Fallbrook, Kelly Glover of La Mesa, Mister B Rice of Vista, Savannah Sturgill of San Diego, Viper Wells of San Diego, Bobo Kroeker of Huntington Beach, and Woody Scribellito of El Cajon.

Each of the eight dogs qualified for the semi-finals during preliminary round action on August 20 at Qualcomm Stadium where 228 dachshunds participated.

Noodles Gainer and Kelly Glover were the two fastest dogs in the semi-finals, meaning those two advance to the national championship race in San Diego December 29 during the nationally televised Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade presented by San Diego County Credit Union. Other Wiener Nationals’ finalists will come from Albuquerque, Dallas, El Paso, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Reno and Sacramento.
