Pacific Life Holiday Bowl Distributes Record Payout
The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl distributed a record payout to the two teams that participated in the December 29, 2005 football game at Qualcomm Stadium, 2005 bowl president Stephen P. Cushman announced. The University of Oklahoma Sooners and University of Oregon Ducks each received $2,130,955 for participating in “ San Diego’s Bowl Classic.” The Sooners defeated the Ducks 17-14 before a record 65,416 fans.

“It’s due largely to the bowl’s increasing team payout that we have been able to secure partnerships with two of the nation’s most prestigious and tradition-rich conferences,” said Cushman. “And it’s because of these payout figures that our fans will continue to experience the best college football has to offer.”

The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl pits the runner-up from the Pacific-10 Conference against the third selection from the Big 12 Conference.

The previous Holiday Bowl high per team payout was in 2004 when the University of California and Texas Tech University each received $2,086,815. This is the sixth consecutive year the game has paid the participating teams at least $2 million. The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl’s 2005 per team payout ranked ninth largest of the 28 bowl games.
