Eight Wiener Dogs Advance in Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals |
Qualifying for the 2007 Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals was held this morning on the rugby fields at Qualcomm Stadium. A field of 334 dachshunds participated in the event, each vying for one of eight spots in the semi-final. The semi-final race is October 25th during halftime at the Lakers-Jazz exhibition game at the San Diego Sports Arena. This Pacific Life Holiday Bowl event benefited the Rancho Coastal Humane Society.
The fastest qualifier today was Kelly Glover from La Mesa. The three-year-old, 14-inch, 10-pound dachshund set a track record by completing the 48-foot course in 2.36 seconds. Other qualifiers include: Savannah from San Diego; Oscar of El Cajon; Bruno from El Cajon; Schatzl of San Diego; Jack from Temecula; Minnie Morse of San Diego; and Nicky from El Cajon. The slowest qualifier completed the eight-dog field with a time of 3.18 seconds.
The fastest dog from the halftime race at the Lakers-Jazz exhibition game semi-final will advance to represent San Diego at the national championship race in San Diego December 27 during the nationally televised Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade presented by San Diego County Credit Union, also a Pacific Life Holiday Bowl event. The other finalists will represent Albuquerque, El Paso, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Reno and Sacramento. |
