Pacific Life Holiday Bowl Distributes Record Payout |

Cal and Texas A&M each receive over $2.3 million for playing in 29th annual game The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl distributed a record payout to the teams that participated in the December 28, 2006 football game at Qualcomm Stadium, 2006 bowl President Doug Sawyer announced. The California Golden Bears and Texas A&M Aggies each received $2,334,186 for participating in “ San Diego’s Bowl Classic.” The bowl had guaranteed each team $2.2 million. The Golden Bears defeated the Aggies 45-10 before 62,395 fans. “It’s a testament to the San Diego community and our hard-working volunteers that we continue to raise our per team payouts,” said Sawyer. “As the bowl industry becomes more competitive, payouts become an increasingly important factor in determining the quality of the football teams we get here in San Diego.” The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl pits the runner-up from the Pacific-10 Conference against the third selection from the Big 12 Conference. he previous Holiday Bowl high per team payout was in 2005 when the Universities of Oregon and Oklahoma each received $2,130,955. This is the seventh consecutive year the game has paid the participating teams at least $2 million. The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl’s 2006 per team payout ranked eleventh highest of the 32 bowl games. |
