Bahia Point, Mission Bay, San Diego (April 26, 2008) – From
a field of 83 five-person teams, team captain Ryan Goforth and "Paddle
This!" were crowned champions of the 2008 Maui Jim Outrigger
Challenge. The event was held at Bahia
Point along Mission Bay in idyllic San Diego weather with temperatures
exceeding 80-degrees. "Paddle
This!” narrowly defeated “The A-Team” and defending champion "U.S. Coast
Guard" in the three-team final.
Paddlers were also treated to the Wells Fargo Luau, which
was complete with food from DaKine's Plate Lunches and beverages from LandShark
and Kona Beer, Pepsi, Aquafina and Dr Pepper.
Island entertainment was performed by Kaleo’Onalani Polynesian Dancers.
The racing action was supported by the HanoHano Outrigger
Canoe Club. The club provided the
canoes, and handled the paddle training and race management.
