ImageQualcomm Stadium, San Diego – The qualifying for the 2008 Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals was held Saturday, August 30, 2008 on the rugby fields at Qualcomm Stadium.  A field of 362 dachshunds participated in the event, each vying for one of eight spots in the semi-final.  The semi-final race is October 10th during an inning break at the San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers game at Petco Park.  This Pacific Life Holiday Bowl event benefited the Rancho Coastal Humane Society.

The fastest qualifier today was Jack from Temecula. The 3 ½ year-old, 12-pound dachshund set a track record by completing the 51-foot course in 2.28 seconds. Other qualifiers include: Savannah Rowe of San Diego; Chaparrito Suzuki of Chula Vista; Heidi Roo Smith of Escondido; Jack Black Wilkins of Escondido; Kelly Glover of La Mesa; Mila Miesner of San Diego; and Pringle Rice of San Diego. The slowest qualifier completed the eight-dog field with a time of 3.1 seconds.

The fastest dog from the race at the Padres v. Dodgers semi-final will advance to represent San Diego at the national championship race in San Diego December 29 during the nationally televised Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade presented by San Diego County Credit Union, also a Pacific Life Holiday Bowl event.  The other finalists will represent Albuquerque, El Paso, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Reno and Sacramento.
