Crown Point Shores, Mission Bay, San Diego (May 17 & 18,
2008) – Over 140 teams and hundreds of spectators packed Crown Point Shores
this weekend for the Jack in the Box 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament – A Pacific
Life Holiday Bowl Production. There were
17 divisions, including brackets for men and women, old and young, tall and
short, and good and b… (not so good). In
the top division (Elite), the West Coast All Stars defeated Beat City 16-14 in
an exciting and hard-fought center court finale.
In other action, Anthony Tapia and Caleb Morris claimed the
AT&T 3-Point Shootout adult and junior championships respectively. And while the sun kept folks warm along the
shores, Tapia was downright hot and can undeniably claim to have been the
weekend’s top sharp-shooter. He also
took home the adult winner’s trophy for the Mudd Club Free Throw Challenge.
Brandon Wheelihan won the junior division.
The Jack in the Box 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament has served
as an annual fund-raiser for the non-profit Pacific Life Holiday Bowl for 21
years. This year it also benefitted Big
Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County.
Special thanks are extended to Lincoln Military Housing, who
made it financially possible for all military teams to have their entry fees
waived. And to the Los Angeles Sparks
for providing two regular season tickets to each and every baller who
participated in the event.
Other sponsor partners who made the weekend a success
include Pepsi, Aquafina, Dr Pepper, Classic Party Rentals, 100.7 Jack FM, 760
KFMB, NBC 7/39, San Diego Family Magazine, San Diego City Beat, Vavi Sport, San
Diego Sol, Picnic People and Pacific Life.
