Pacific Life Holiday Bowl Distributes Record Payout |
|
The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl announced today that a record
payout was distributed to the teams that participated in the December 27, 2007
football game at Qualcomm Stadium. The
Arizona State University Sun Devils and University of Texas Longhorns each received
$2,525,479 for participating in the 30th annual contest. The guaranteed per team minimum payout was
$2.25 million. Payment was delivered
February 29.
The Longhorns defeated the Sun Devils 52-34 before 64,020
fans.
The previous Holiday Bowl high per team payout was in 2006
when the California Golden Bears and Texas A&M Aggies each received
$2,334,186. While 2007 payout figures
from all licensed NCAA bowl games have not yet been gathered, Holiday Bowl
officials believe theirs will rank tenth or eleventh highest of the 32 bowl
games.
The Holiday Bowl first surpassed the $1 million per team
payout threshold in 1989 (Penn St. and BYU).
The $2 million per team payout threshold was first exceeded in 2000
(Oregon and Texas).
