It’s time to “hang loose,” grab a few friends, pick up some paddles and enjoy a memorable day along Mission Bay. The Wells Fargo Outrigger Challenge & Luau returns to Crown Point Shores Saturday, April 24th.
This ninth annual event serves as a fund-raiser for the non-profit Pacific Life Holiday Bowl.
Outrigger teams are coed and consist of five people, at least two of whom must be women. An outrigger canoe and steersperson are provided on event day, courtesy of the Hanohano Outrigger Canoe Club. The course is 200-meters. Each team is guaranteed at least two races. More than 100 teams are expected to participate.
The Luau features music, entertainment, drinks and lunch. Food is provided by Da Kine’s Plate Lunches, while beverages are provided by Anheuser-Busch and Dr Pepper.
The entry fee is $200 per team; $225 after April 17th. Each team member receives a t-shirt, beverages, and a ticket to the Luau. Individual luau-only tickets are $20. Raffle tickets also will be sold. Grand prize is roundtrip transportation for two to Hawaii, courtesy of Hawaiian Airlines.
