The National University Holiday Bowl, with a 7:15 p.m. PT kickoff on Dec. 30, pits the Arizona State Sun Devils (10-3) against the Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-5). The SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl kicks off at 6:30 p.m. PT Dec. 26 and will feature the Northern Illinois Huskies (12-1) against the Utah State Aggies (8-5). Both games, which historically feature festive pageantry throughout, will be played at Qualcomm Stadium and televised on ESPN.
“We are honored to have such a remarkable talent in Brian McKnight and Jessica Sanchez singing during this year’s pregame festivities,” said Bill Geppert, president of the 2013 bowl games. “Both will certainly jumpstart what will prove to be amazing and memorable evenings.”
McKnight, who has released 13 albums, has received numerous awards and nominations including Grammys, Soul Train, NAACP Image, MTV Music Video , BET and American Music awards. Several of his albums have gone platinum to triple platinum. McKnight is also active on TV and radio and has served as a red carpet host for Extra!
Born and raised in Chula Vista, Calif., Sanchez, 17, was one of the final two contestants on Season 11 of American Idol in 2011. She appeared on Showtime at the Apollo as a 10-year-old and a year later advanced to the wild card round of America’s Got Talent. Sanchez is familiar with Qualcomm Stadium as she has previously performed at a San Diego Chargers game.
