Officials from Bridgepoint Education, title sponsor of San Diego’s Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl, announced today that Freedom Station has been designated as the charity of choice for the 2011 bowl game and surrounding festivities.
Freedom Station is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides temporary lodging facilities, educational guidance, counseling, physical therapy and career opportunities to the Nation’s injured and disabled military heroes who are medically retired or discharged.
“Bridgepoint Education is so pleased to recognize Freedom Station as the bowl game’s 2011 beneficiary,” said Andrew Clark, president and CEO of Bridgepoint Education. “They nobly provide much needed services for the defenders of our freedom as they make what often times is a difficult transition back into civilian life.”
In addition to the visibility and awareness Freedom Station stands to garner from its official beneficiary status, $1 from each game ticket sold will go directly to the charity. Since 1998, the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl has sold more than 60,000 tickets in all but one year.
“This truly is an honor to be designated the charity of choice of this San Diego institution,” said Sandy Lehmkuhler, executive director of Freedom Station. “We are so grateful to the good folks at Bridgepoint Education and the bowl game. This generous contribution will go a long way toward helping us pursue the critical objectives set forth in our mission.”
The Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl kicks off at 5 p.m. PT, Wednesday, December 28th at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. The game pits teams from Pacific-12 and Big 12 Conferences.
