It was a typical Holiday Bowl thriller with the final outcome not determined until the last play of the game.
The first 15 minutes belonged to the No. 8 Oregon Ducks, who jumped out to a 14-0 lead. No. 12 Texas responded with three second quarter touchdowns to take a 7-point advantage into the locker room, 21-14.
Duck signal caller Joey Harrington connected on a 55-yard scoring pass to tailback Maurice Morris early in the third quarter to tie the game. Harrington then gave Oregon a 28-21 advantage when he scrambled for 9-yards for a touchdown at the 9:43 mark of the fourth quarter.
That lead lasted all of 18 seconds thanks to the heroics of Texas return specialist Victor Ike, who returned the ensuing kickoff a Holiday Bowl record 93 yards for the game tying touchdown.
The Ducks took the lead for good on a 4-yard touchdown run by Jason Willis and held off the Longhorns, who were throwing for the endzone as time ran out.
