Coast Guard Paddles to Victory at Outrigger Challenge |
Nearly 70 teams came out to Bahia Point, Mission Bay last month to paddle in the sixth annual Manpower Outrigger Challenge. After countless heats of races and over four hours of paddling, the event finals came down to some seasoned veterans as well as some new faces. The U.S. Coast Guard team prevailed in the three-team final, making their move midway through the race and holding off Team Anonymous and Drink or Swim Rowing Club. The U.S. Coast Guard won the race for the third time in six years. Participants and their families were also treated to the tastes and sounds of the Hawaiian Islands at the Wells Fargo Luau. This festive celebration had Hawaiian music, Polynesian dancers, drinks and lunch provided by Da Kine’s Plate Lunches. The event also held a raffle, which featured fantastic prizes including two round trip tickets on ExpressJet, tickets to the 2007 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl and 2007 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, as well as tickets for the San Diego Zoo, USS Midway, Hornblower Dinner Cruises, Legoland, and Amtrak. |
