Nationally Televised Event Steps off at 10 am
SAN DIEGO – The 25th annual Port of San Diego Holiday Bowl Parade presented by U.S. Bank is set to step off at 10 am on Wednesday, December 30th. The parade is a National Funding Holiday Bowl production and annually attracts more than 100,000 viewers to the scenic bayside streets of San Diego.
This is a nationally and locally televised attraction; Universal HD will carry the national broadcast, while Channel 4 San Diego will produce the event and air it live locally. The national broadcast is scheduled for January 3rd from 8 am to 9 am PST. Channel 4 will broadcast the event live, and rebroadcast it several times.
“The scenic San Diego bay serves as the stunning backdrop for what truly is one of the nation’s best parades,” said Executive Director of the San Diego Bowl Game Association, Mark Neville. “Hundreds of community-minded volunteers and several dedicated sponsors have made this an event that we are so proud to present to local San Diegans and those visiting for the bowl game.”
Recognized as “America’s Largest Balloon Parade,” the event features more giant helium-filled character balloons than any parade in the country. Featured inflatables this year include the Grinch and Mr. Potato Head among a cast of characters that will require 65,000 cubic feet of helium.
San Diego sports industry icon and longtime Holiday Bowl cornerstone, Bruce Binkowski will be leading the fun as Grand Marshal.
Other events surrounding the parade include the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals and the Bumble Bee Seafoods 5K Run.
The 2015 Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals pits eight of the fastest dachshunds from all over San Diego County against each other on a 53-foot track. The top eight beat out more than 200 other dachshunds in qualifying rounds held earlier this fall to earn their spots in the finals. The winner will be featured in the parade aboard the Wienerschnitzel float. It starts at 9:30 am in the parade television area.
The Bumble Bee Seafoods 5K Run kicks off the parade at 9:45 am. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each division. Registration is still open. Runners will run along the parade route in front of tens of thousands of spectators.
