SAN DIEGO – San Diego’s bowl games are proving to be a rich breeding ground for the National Football League. San Diego’s two bowl games. the Holiday Bowl and San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, have featured 280 players who are currently on NFL rosters.
By the end of the 2015 NFL Draft, 25 former Holiday and Poinsettia Bowl players had been selected, including USC defensive end Leonard Williams, the sixth overall pick.
The longest-tenured NFL veteran with experience in San Diego’s bowl games is current Arizona Cardinals defensive end Cory Redding. Redding, who appeared for the Texas Longhorns in the 2001 Holiday Bowl, has played 13 NFL seasons with five different teams.
