SDCCU Holiday Bowl Blood and Food Drive presented by Kaiser Permanente

November 19, 2020 | Grossmont Center (near Chuze Fitness)

BY APPOINTMENT ONLY 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The SDCCU Holiday Bowl is stepping up to support our community in an area where there is a dire need.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are on the verge of a serious blood shortage for patients in the region. According to our partners at the San Diego Blood Bank, the school closures and work-from-home policies have created a slew of blood drive cancellations. This is significant as more than half of the blood supply comes from these mobile drives!

DONATE TO SAN DIEGO FOOD BANK

No appointment necessary for Food Bank donations

Help the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank and their North County Food Bank chapter feed hope this holiday season with your donation of nonperishable food items!  The Food Bank’s “most needed food items” include: canned meats & fish, canned vegetables, canned fruits, jars of peanut butter and dried shelf-stable goods like oatmeal, cereals and pastas. All donations will be delivered to the Food Bank’s warehouse after the food drive, where the donations will be sorted and then distributed to local individuals and families facing food insecurity throughout the county, including those who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. You can also donate securely online through the Holiday Bowl’s Virtual Food Drive. For more ways you can help the Food Bank this holiday season, please visit SanDiegoFoodBank.org.

A Priority on Safety

With existing social distancing mandates you might wonder if this is an allowable event. As operators of the blood drive, the San Diego Blood Bank shall ensure it will be conducted with a priority on safety for all who participate.

Supervisor Greg Cox said recently: “Blood drives and blood collection activities do not fall under the countywide ban on gatherings. We encourage organizations hosting blood drives to keep their commitments if possible. Blood donation centers use appropriate infection control mechanisms intended to assure the safety of the products, donors and staff. As a longtime, regular blood donor, I know that having a safe blood supply for our community is a critical public health issue for our region and I urge everyone to give the gift of life.”

The Food Bank is committed to providing food assistance and resources to the 350,000 people we serve every month and those affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Please note that the Food Bank’s 200 food distribution sites throughout San Diego County are continuing to operate for families and seniors to receive food assistance during this crisis. The Food Bank is actively monitoring federal, state and local government guidelines daily and taking necessary precautions to ensure that the food and products that we distribute to our clients remains safe and that our food distributions and volunteer activities can continue.
