2013 finalshootout 610It was a family affair at the finals of the LM Capital Group $1 Million Hole-in-One Shootout today at the Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee. Eighteen finalists lined up from 170-yards for a shot at $1 million. And while no one aced the hole, Jacobe Washburn of San Diego landed closest to pin, at 28 feet, 11 inches. His nephew, Garret Washburn, finished third at 44 feet, 4 inches.

Jacobe Washburn’s shot earned him two roundtrip airline tickets courtesy of Alaska Airlines. The top five players closest to the pin earned prizes that included golf rounds, equipment and hotel stays.

This marked the 25th year of the annual Holiday Bowl fund-raiser. After 10 days of qualifying and nearly 32,000 shots at the Stadium Golf Center, 20 participants qualified for the shot at $1 million with several players earning more than one attempt. Barbara Thomas of San Diego was the lone woman in the final round. Gary Urtiaga finished in second place, landing his ball 42 feet, 1 inch from the pin. No one has claimed the $1 million over the 25-year span.

Other event sponsors include Wells Fargo, Barney & Barney, Cox Communications, AM 600 KOGO, XTRA Sports 1360, San Diego Business Journal and Jersey Mike’s Subs.

The 2013 Holiday Bowl is set for 7:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30 and features teams from the Pac-12 and Big 12 conferences. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.  For more information, visit
