Racing Wiener Dogs Return to Qualcomm Stadium August 4th

2012_wdpreview_news.jpgIt’s time to crown San Diego’s fastest wiener dog! The racing dachshunds return Saturday, August 4th on the rugby fields at Qualcomm Stadium. Registration opens at 8 a.m.; racing begins at 9 a.m., and competition wraps up at approximately 11 a.m.

The Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals is free for spectators, and serves as a fund-raiser for the non-profit Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl. The entry fee for racing dachshunds is $15.

The 16 fastest dachshunds from the expected field of more than 400 dogs will advance to the San Diego finals, Monday, September 3rd on the track between horse races at Del Mar. The quickest dog from the Del Mar event moves on to the national championship, Thursday, December 27th before the bowl game’s nationally televised Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade presented by San Diego County Credit Union. Eight dogs from around the country will compete in the event finale.
