SAN DIEGO – Boys and girls took part in the summer sports season on Saturday at the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl’s free Youth Football Clinic presented by General Dynamics NASSCO. The chance to play in such an historic venue again drew large crowds and garnered excitement from kids and parents alike. Approximately 400 kids took to the field at Qualcomm Stadium to participate in the annual event produced by the nonprofit bowl game.

The free clinic is designed to promote a healthy, active lifestyle and introduce a passion for football to kids of all ages. Boys and girls ages 6-14 participated in offensive and defensive drills led by Fast Play Athletics. Special guest instructors included former NFL players: Legedu Naanee, Stephen Cooper, Larry Parker and Akili Smith.

Former Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers tight end Craig McEwen delivered a motivational speech to an attentive crowd of kids to start the morning off on a high note. McEwen is a University of Utah alum and played with play for the Redskins for a year before playing for the Chargers from 1989 – 1991.

In addition, the clinic hosted a Punt, Pass and Kick Contest. This competition allowed boys and girls to showcase their talents in punting, passing and kicking with scores based on distance and accuracy. The top finishers from each age group (listed below) received free SDCCU Holiday Bowl Tickets.
